Siberia 6.6 Earthquake Same Area of Soyuz Rocket Crash

A magnitude 6.6 earthquake occurred earlier today and is in same area of Russia's Soyuz crash site after failing on Saturday 12.24.2012. It could be just a coincident, or there could be a direct connection.

Russia's Soyuz-2.1B rocket crashed into Siberia minutes after its launch due to rocket failure. Fragments crashed approximately 120 kilometers south of the Novosibirsk region of Siberia. This is the same area of today's 6.6 quake which was located 361 km (224 miles) from Abakan, Russia.

 Indonesia Volcano Eruption and CME Impact

One of Indonesia's most active volcanoes erupted Tuesday, spewing clouds of ash and panicking villagers but no evacuation has been ordered so far, a government vulcanologist said.

The first eruption at Mount Lokon was at 3:07 am (1907 GMT Monday), followed by two more bursts within minutes, as reported by a vulcanologist from a monitoring post near the volcano on Sulawesi Island.

 

Saturday's CME (coronal mass ejection) hit the Earth's magnetic field today, setting off a geo-magnetic storm. This is caused by a surge of charged particles emitted from the Sun and is known to cause extreme weather which includes earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes and other forms of severe weather events.

Two more CMEs have launched from the Sun on Dec. 25th and 26th. These two should hit the Earth's magnetic field on the 28th and 29th respectively. Watch for continued extreme weather events throughout this week.

Fireball Captures Attention of Hundreds of Sky Watchers

Nine European news agencies from Germany to Italy are reporting a large fireball streaked the sky on Christmas Eve December 24th. A spokesperson for the German Aerospace Center, told a local newspaper that the celestial phenomenon was "99.9 percent" certainly a meteor.

However, officials from the Royal Observatory of Belgium disagreed, saying Sunday in a statement on its website that the streak of light was from the atmospheric re-entry of the final stage of a Soyuz rocket that launched on Wednesday and delivered three astronauts to the International Space Station two days later.
